With over 25 years of experience as a knitter and crocheter, and several published designs under my belt, I have seen almost everything in pattern writing. My favourite patterns to knit, design, and edit are children's garments, lacework and lace charts, cables, and circular/seamless garments. I also have experience with intarsia, stranded, and brioche knitting.

In addition to technical editing, I can help you by grading and even writing pattern instructions for you. I can help you create and implement a style sheet for cohesive and consistent formatting for all your patterns. I can also create and provide charts for your pattern using Stitchmastery charting software. An example of a graded garment pattern I have designed and written can be found here

I am passionate about collaboration and making connections in the fibre community, and I love working with new and enthusiastic designers. Please contact me to discuss how I can help your design become a polished, high quality pattern that knitters will love.

Exceeding Expectations

Committed to Quality

Upon completing Aroha Knits' course for designers, Swatch Studio, I learned the value and importance of technical editing in creating a high quality pattern that knitters want to knit. My aptitude towards math and these technical aspects of pattern writing sparked an interest in tech editing, a job I previously never knew existed. I continued my education by taking Joeli Kelly's Learn to Tech Edit and A Masterclass in Grading.

As a designer I have a strong understanding of sizing standards, grading, spreadsheets, and charts. As a mom, I have a special appreciation of childen's sizing, as well as the needs of children and parents in regards to garments.

My background as a medical technologist contributes a wealth of skills that translate to technical editing. I am a very detailed oriented person with high standards, who does not cut corners. I am also customer focused, kind, approachable, and collaborative. I seek to work with you to create the best possible finished product.

Working with Nicky was amazing. As a tech-editor, this is my full-time job, but when I design patterns I am always looking for another tech-editor to work with! Nicky was very thorough, detailed with her edits and very personable to work with. She made the process easier and the finished product flawless! I would highly recommend and I know that I will be using her continually in the future!

As a newbie designer, I was looking for a tech editor with whom I can build a relationship. Nicky is extremely helpful and knowledgeable in answering questions. Her turnaround is fast and she had some very helpful tips and advice regarding my pattern. Nicky is very friendly and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend her services and look forward to working with her again.

I have been designing knitting patterns for several years and it was a pleasure working with Nicky as my tech editor. Nicky worked incredibly fast to get my pattern back to me and provided helpful edits that improved the quality of my design. She was happy to look over my pattern several times which gave me great peace of mind that it was the best it could be before giving it to test knitters to replicate. Thanks again Nicky, your attention to detail, efficiency, and kindness throughout the review process was much appreciated and I look forward to working together again soon!
